Baby Items Crochet Patterns

A bib, a burp cloth, a pacifier clip, a bow and a hat, for the first few months. All of them beginner or confident beginner, all of them under $5, all written for yarn that survives a washing machine.

The Baby Hat is the one to read carefully before you start. It is written in three sizes by head circumference: preemie at 12 to 13 inches, newborn at 13 to 15, and 0 to 3 months at 14 to 16, in worsted on an I hook. If you are making it for a shower and the baby is not born yet, make the 0 to 3 month size - a newborn hat fits for about two weeks and then never again.

The Pacifier Clip is written at 9 to 12 inches long, your choice, in worsted cotton or acrylic on an F hook. Keep it at the shorter end for a young baby.

Yarn note: pick cotton or a yarn labeled for babies. Anything scratchy stays in the drawer, and a loose halo of fiber is a hazard near a face.

A bib, a burp cloth and a hat in one gift bag is about a skein and a half of cotton and a weekend of work.
