Amigurumi & Plushies Crochet Patterns

Three amigurumi patterns: Shelly the mermaid doll with a shell top and yarn hair, a smaller LTK Mermaid, and a mini cupcake plushie with a frosting swirl and a cherry.

Amigurumi is a different discipline from the rest of the shop, and it is worth knowing that before you start. Everything is worked in continuous rounds with no joining, in single crochet, on a hook one or two sizes smaller than the yarn label recommends. That tight gauge is deliberate: you want a fabric dense enough that the stuffing does not show through, and a loose amigurumi looks lumpy no matter how neat your stitches are. If you normally crochet at a relaxed tension, go down another half size.

Start with the Mini Cupcake Plushie. It is beginner-level, it is one sitting, and it teaches you the two things every other amigurumi needs - working in a spiral without losing your place, and the increase and decrease rhythm that shapes a sphere.

The two mermaids are the step up. Shelly is intermediate and has the most pieces to assemble; the LTK Mermaid is confident beginner and smaller.
