What these tools are for
Every one of these started as a calculation worth not doing on paper before a
project — how much yarn, how many chains, how many squares, what to charge. They are
free, they need no account, and they run entirely in your browser: the photo you feed
to the chart maker is processed on your own device and never uploaded anywhere.
The numbers behind them are measured rather than guessed. The yardage model comes
from unravelling worsted swatches and counting: 479 inches of yarn for 156 single
crochet, 421 for 96 half double, 395 for 72 double. That works out at 0.832, 0.731 and
0.686 yards per square inch, and every calculator here uses the same figures, so the
blanket calculator and the yarn calculator will never tell you two different things
about the same blanket.
Printable reference sheets
Most of these tools print a clean, branded sheet of your own result — your
chart with its colour legend, your yardage, your starting chain — sized for letter paper
with the date on it. Large charts split across pages that line up edge to edge, so a
100 × 100 graphghan comes out as four sheets you tape together rather
than one unreadable one. The reference charts (blanket sizes, hat sizes, hook
conversions, abbreviations, punch cards) print as standalone sheets you can keep by the
chair.

Are these crochet tools really free?
Yes, all of them, with no account and no trial. Every tool runs in your own browser — the photo you upload to the chart maker is processed on your device and never sent to a server. Printing offers you a newsletter sign-up first; decline it and the sheet still prints.
Do I need to install anything?
No. These are web pages, not apps. They work on a phone, a tablet or a laptop, in any modern browser. The chart makers are easier on a bigger screen simply because you are looking at a grid, but everything works on a phone.
